Legislator Urges Police to Deploy Full Capability in Arresting Suspect in Bandung Kidnapping Case

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Rajiv has urged the police to deploy their full capabilities to immediately arrest a suspect with the initials TH, who is accused of kidnapping and assaulting a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung Regency, West Java. He stated that the wanted list (DPO) status that has been issued must be promptly followed up with an arrest so that the perpetrator has no room to escape or destroy evidence. “There must be no room for perpetrators of violence to escape legal accountability,” Rajiv said in Jakarta on Tuesday, speaking as a legislator from the West Java II electoral district, which includes Bandung Regency. He demanded that the perpetrator be sentenced as severely as possible in accordance with applicable laws and regulations if proven guilty through the judicial process. According to him, the heinous assault that left YTR with serious injuries has also wounded the public’s sense of justice. Rajiv assessed that the state must be present to provide maximum protection to the victim and ensure the perpetrator is immediately arrested and then undergoes a swift and transparent legal process. “If all the accusations and evidence are proven in court, then the perpetrator must be punished as severely as possible,” he said. Furthermore, he stated that the physical, psychological, and social recovery of the victim must be a shared priority so that the victim can return to living her life with dignity. He also urged members of the public who know the perpetrator’s whereabouts to immediately report it to law enforcement officials to expedite the arrest process. According to him, this case must become a momentum to strengthen protections for women and victims of violence. “The state must ensure that justice is upheld and the victim’s rights are fully restored,” he said. Previously, the West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) partnered with technology company Meta to help trace the digital footprint of the perpetrator of the kidnapping and assault against a woman with the initials YTR (29) in Bandung Regency, West Java, who remains at large. West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan said the cooperation was carried out to detect the whereabouts of the suspect Taufik Hidayat through his social media activity. “We are also cooperating with an overseas party, namely in the cyber field, Meta, which manages data on social media. We are cooperating to be able to detect from social media as well so that it can show the whereabouts of the person concerned,” Rudi said in Bandung City, West Java, on Tuesday.
