Legislator urges LPSK presence in remote areas to build restorative justice
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission III, Bob Hasan, is pushing for the presence of representatives from the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) even in remote areas to build restorative justice in society.
Bob stated that after the revision of the Witness and Victim Protection Law (PSDK) is approved for enactment, the refinement of the legal framework must focus on strengthening institutions that directly interact with the public.
“The full presence of LPSK greatly determines how restorative justice can truly be built in the midst of society,” said Bob, who is also the Chairman of the House Legislation Body, in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.
The lawmaker in the legal field said that LPSK is an essential instrument that represents and advocates for the interests of the public dealing with the law.
To realise the supremacy of just law, he said there is homework regarding the legal structure in Indonesia.
He highlighted the institutional span of control, which is deemed not yet optimal in reaching the public at the regional level.
Therefore, he urged that in the future, LPSK should no longer operate with the old, overly centralised format. He pushed for the establishment of LPSK representatives up to the regional level.
“LPSK as an institution must no longer be like it was before. It must be in every regency,” he said.
“So, LPSK is the same. The purpose of this structural improvement is clear, namely to serve and represent the interests of the public so that the supremacy of just law can be upheld evenly,” said Bob.
Previously, the 17th Plenary Session of the House of Representatives for the IV Session Period of 2025–2026 on Tuesday (21/4) approved the PSDK Bill to be enacted as a law.
One of the provisions regulates the expansion of protection for subjects in criminal justice processes, not only for witnesses and/or victims, but also for witnesses to perpetrators, reporters, informants, and/or experts who have previously also faced threats.
Furthermore, LPSK is established as an independent state institution free from any power influence. In addition, LPSK is strengthened by the formation of regional representatives implemented according to needs.
