Legislator urges Jakarta provincial government to strengthen assistance on waste sorting
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta DPRD member Yuke Yurike has requested the Jakarta Provincial Government to strengthen assistance to the community ahead of the implementation of the waste sorting policy on 1 August 2026.
According to her, while residents are beginning to understand the importance of sorting waste, they still require socialisation, training, and certainty regarding the collection system.
“What must be ensured is assistance, socialisation, training, and the waste collection system. This way, the community can sort and process waste optimally,” Yuke said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
During a recess in Ciganjur Village, Jagakertsa District, South Jakarta, she stated that waste management issues were among the many aspirations expressed by residents.
Residents are questioning the waste management flow after sorting and are requesting continuous assistance.
Therefore, she continued, education must not stop at merely inviting people to sort waste. The Jakarta government must also ensure that the public understands the function of supporting facilities, such as biopores and composters, and knows where the sorted waste will be transported.
She assessed that the success of this policy depends on the collaboration of various parties. The government, communities, and waste bank managers must work together so that the community receives sustainable assistance.
She also emphasised that the Jakarta government needs to provide basic facilities, ranging from waste bags, bins, and composters to a clear collection system, so that residents are not confused after fulfilling their obligation to sort waste.
“We must ensure that the community is not asked to sort waste only to become confused later due to a lack of follow-up. This must be evaluated, especially since there is only about one month left until the policy implementation,” said Yuke.
In addition to strengthening education, she hopes that all regional apparatus organisations can be more responsive to various public aspirations.
“Synergy between the DPRD, the Jakarta Provincial Government, villages, districts, and relevant agencies is the key to ensuring every policy can be implemented effectively on the ground,” she explained.
