Legislator Urges Jakarta Government to Swiftly Organise Utility Cables

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) member Yuke Yurike has urged the Jakarta Provincial Government to immediately organise utility cables, noting that the regional regulation (Perda) on the matter has already been ratified. “We want this bylaw that has been created to be implemented immediately, including the assignment of operators and other matters, which must be on target,” Yuke said in Jakarta on Thursday. This is one of the issues most frequently complained about by the public during her recess visits. She assessed that the utility network problem not only spoils the cityscape but also endangers local residents. In some areas of the capital, this issue has even claimed victims. “In some areas, it is already good, the arrangement is underway and the cables are neat. But in other areas, it is getting worse,” Yuke said. Besides improving tidiness and safety for residents, she believes organising the utility networks will also make it easier for the government to supervise the operators utilising them. Previously, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said the arrangement of electrical cables for the Integrated Utility Network Facility (SJUT) in Jakarta is very complex and cannot be resolved quickly or simultaneously. “Some have already started, but it cannot all be done at the same time, because the cable problem is so numerous and complex,” Pramono said. Nevertheless, the man familiarly known as Pram assured that his administration will soon organise the tangled cables in Jakarta. He also confirmed he has signed the regional regulation on cable arrangement, meaning the process will automatically commence.
