Legislator urges government to enhance public understanding of JKN
BPJS Kesehatan serves as a tangible manifestation of the government’s commitment to enhancing public welfare, particularly in ensuring equitable access to healthcare services. Pariaman (ANTARA) - Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission IX from the Gerindra Faction, Ade Rezki Pratama, continues to urge both central and local governments to increase public understanding of the National Health Insurance (JKN) programme from the Social Security Organising Agency (BPJS) Kesehatan to ensure optimal social protection amid society. “Public understanding of BPJS Kesehatan, as well as rights and obligations as participants, still needs to be improved,” said Ade during a video conference speech at the JKN Socialisation in 2X11 Kayu Tanam Subdistrict, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra, on Saturday. He stated that BPJS Kesehatan exists as a real embodiment of the government’s commitment to improving public welfare, especially in equitable access to healthcare services. However, he acknowledged that public understanding, even regarding procedures and participation methods, remains a challenge that needs to be addressed. Through socialisation, he continued, the public is expected to understand the benefits of participation, service procedures, and the importance of paying premiums regularly to maintain the sustainability of the JKN programme in protecting society. He also touched on the JKN participation achievements in Padang Pariaman Regency as one of the regions that requires serious attention from the government and stakeholders. He mentioned data on JKN participation achievements up to the second semester of 2025 from the population in Padang Pariaman, which totals 460,452 people. JKN participation in the regency is only 86.17%, or 396,756 people. From that number of participants, he continued, only 278,663 are active, or 61.98%. Meanwhile, to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC), participation realisation should be 98% and active participation 80%. He urged the public to always activate JKN participation so they can enjoy benefits as participants, because if they suddenly face health issues, they can receive medical services from clinics, community health centres, to hospitals without affecting family finances. “No one wants to get sick, and no one knows when they will get sick, therefore JKN participation must always be active,” he added.
