The government has been urged not to halt its efforts to enforce and evaluate state assets in the Senayan area comprehensively, without being limited to a single asset. This includes the Senayan golf course, which is still managed by a private party. The government has demonstrated a firm stance by executing the takeover of the land and buildings of Hotel Sultan in the Blok 15 Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area. “I say not only at Hotel Sultan, but also other parties that still control state or government property or rights, or other assets in the Senayan area that are still used or owned by private entities whose rights may have expired. The government must be brave to take them back,” said Rudianto Lallo, a member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, in Jakarta on Monday (22/6). He affirmed his support for the government’s efforts to ensure state assets are utilised according to their designation and provide benefits to the public. According to him, the state must have firmness in managing assets that are public rights. “The state must not lose when discussing assets that are the rights of the state or government,” he stated. Rudianto expressed hope that the government’s action regarding the former Hotel Sultan could become a momentum for the reorganisation of state assets that have been managed by other parties and whose management periods have ended. “Hopefully this becomes a good alarm in the context of returning all government-owned assets that have been controlled by private parties whose management contracts have expired,” he concluded. Previously, a number of academics from various fields encouraged the government to evaluate the utilisation of several state assets in the Senayan area so they can provide greater benefits for the public interest. In line with this, Deputy Minister of the State Secretariat, Bambang Eko Suhariyanto, emphasised that state assets must be utilised to the greatest extent for the prosperity and welfare of the people. “These assets must be utilised to the greatest extent for the prosperity and welfare of the people,” said Bambang. He added that the government has an interest in ensuring state assets are under appropriate management and can be utilised for the public interest. According to Bambang, the former Hotel Sultan land is a state asset that was acquired by the government between 1959 and 1962 to support the organisation of the IV Asian Games in Jakarta. The government is being pressed to enforce order on state assets in the GBK area, including the Senayan golf course, to be converted into Green Open Space (RTH) or public facilities.
