Legislator: Trenggalek Heritage Procession is More Than Just an Annual Tradition
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Novita Hardini, believes that the Heritage Procession (Kirab Pusaka) for the 832nd anniversary of Trenggalek Regency is not merely an annual tradition, but also holds spiritual meaning, serving as a momentum to offer prayers for the safety and welfare of the regency’s people.
“This procession is not just a celebration, but also a spiritual step to bring prayers so that Trenggalek is kept away from danger, disasters, drought, and poverty,” she stated in a written statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The series of procession events, held on Monday (31/8), began with the cleansing (penjamasan) of the regency’s heirlooms two days prior. The Trenggalek Regency heirlooms then underwent a ‘bedol desa’ procession towards Kamulan Village Hall, the location of the Kamulan Inscription, which serves as one of the historical markers of Trenggalek’s anniversary.
Meanwhile, the heirlooms belonging to the Regent of Trenggalek were transported to Karangrejo Village Hall, Kampak District, before being brought back to the Pendopo Manggala Praja Nugraha.
This series of events is part of an effort to preserve Trenggalek’s traditions and cultural heritage, while providing a space for reflection so that the anniversary commemoration does not stop at ceremony, but becomes a momentum to strengthen unity and the spirit of regional development.
Novita, who is also the Chairperson of the Trenggalek Regency PKK TP, participated in the procession alongside the Regent of Trenggalek, Mochammad Nur Arifin.
She expressed hope that the spirit and enthusiasm of the community would become a collective energy to lead Trenggalek towards a better future.
“It is my hope that this 832nd Anniversary brings the spirit of all Trenggalek people to welcome a better future,” she said.
Novita also appreciated the enthusiasm of the public who once again lined the procession route. For her, direct interaction with the citizens is an important part of the meaning of the anniversary commemoration.
“Alhamdulillah, this time the custom of travelling around and greeting the community has been implemented again. The enthusiasm of the residents is extraordinary. May this energy become a collective strength to build Trenggalek,” she said.
She hopes that the entire series of the 832nd Anniversary celebrations can serve as a momentum to strengthen mutual cooperation (gotong royong) and public optimism in realising a more peaceful, prosperous, and eternal Trenggalek.
