Legislator: Transjakarta fare adjustment to ease transport subsidy burden
A member of Commission B of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD DKI Jakarta), Muhammad Taufik Zulkifli, has stated that adjusting Transjakarta fares, especially for the Transjabodetabek services covering Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, could significantly reduce the substantial transport subsidy. Speaking in Jakarta on Wednesday, Zulkifli noted that any increase would lessen the transport subsidy borne by the Jakarta Provincial Government. He argued the current fare of Rp3,500, which has been in place since 2005, is overdue for revision. Moreover, he pointed out that Transjakarta services for residents outside Jakarta are supported by subsidies financed through the Jakarta Regional Budget (APBD), making it reasonable to raise the fares. “The most important thing is not to burden the public, especially given the current economic conditions,” he said. Zulkifli assessed that raising Transjabodetabek fares would reduce transport subsidy expenditure, thereby assisting the region’s fiscal position. He added that while there would be a reduction in subsidies, the exact amount would depend on the scale of the increase. Governor Pramono Anung announced on 5 June 2026 that a decision on the Transjabodetabek fare for the Blok M-Soekarno Hatta route would be made shortly. He confirmed that adjustments would be decided for several routes in the coming months, not just Blok M to Soekarno-Hatta, citing the excessive subsidy burden as the primary reason for the changes. Pramono did not, however, specify which additional routes would be subject to fare adjustments.
