Jakarta DPRD Chairman Suhud Alynudin has expressed support for Governor Pramono Anung’s plan to open 2,800 job opportunities through a labour-intensive programme. The initiative is seen as a concrete step to reduce unemployment amidst challenging economic conditions. Suhud stated that the programme should be implemented promptly so that its benefits can be directly felt by residents in need of work. “This is a good proposal. It is very good in the current difficult economic situation, with high unemployment. It deserves support,” he said in a statement on Saturday (13/6). He emphasised that creating jobs is an urgent need in Jakarta, and the City Council supports the provincial government’s efforts to expand employment opportunities for citizens through this programme. Suhud also proposed that the labour-intensive programme be combined with the internship scheme currently being promoted by the central government. He believes that synergising the two programmes could accelerate the absorption of workers, particularly among the productive age group seeking employment. However, he cautioned that the implementation of the programme should not focus solely on urban planning and beautification projects. He noted that many other sectors have significant potential to absorb labour. “It could be various things, for example in the creative industry, or other sectors,” he concluded. Governor Pramono Anung had previously announced the plan to create 2,800 job placements through the labour-intensive programme as part of efforts to broaden employment opportunities and help residents cope with economic pressures.
