Legislator Supports LRT Development for Manggarai-Dukuh Atas Route
The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI) has decided to prioritise the continuation of the Jakarta LRT construction towards Dukuh Atas rather than towards the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS). The reason provided is that the provincial government aims to complete the Jakarta LRT route as far as Dukuh Atas first.
Member of Commission B of the Jakarta Provincial Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), M Taufik Zoelkifli, also known as MTZ, believes the decision to continue the Jakarta LRT construction towards Dukuh Atas is correct. This is considered the most realistic option currently, given the reduction in revenue sharing funds (DBH) from the central government.
“Extending it to Dukuh Atas involves continuing from Manggarai, so the budget might be more manageable for now,” said MTZ when contacted by Republika in Jakarta on Tuesday (30/06/2026).
He acknowledged that developing the Jakarta LRT towards Dukuh Atas and towards JIS are both important tasks. However, both developments cannot be carried out simultaneously, especially since the budget requirements for developing the LRT line in the northern Jakarta region will undoubtedly be substantial.
Nevertheless, the Chairman of the PKS Faction of the Jakarta DPRD believes that the provincial government must remain committed to continuing the Jakarta LRT development towards the northern region. This is because public transport services in North Jakarta remain relatively minimal compared to other areas. “After reaching Dukuh Atas, it must continue to the north,” said MTZ.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, stated that the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B project is set to be completed in the near future. He targets that the rail-based transport service, connecting Kelapa Gading to Manggarai, can be finished and operational by August 2026.
“Hopefully, this monorail (Jakarta LRT) will be inaugurated in August. The length of the monorail is 12.5 kilometres, featuring 11 stations from Velodrome (Pegangsaan Dua) to Manggarai,” said Pramono at the North Jakarta District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday.
