Legislator Supports LRT Development for Manggarai-Dukuh Atas Route

The Jakarta Provincial Government has decided to proceed first with the extension of the Jakarta LRT line to Dukuh Atas rather than to Jakarta International Stadium (JIS). The reason is that the provincial government wants to complete the Jakarta LRT route to Dukuh Atas first. Member of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), M Taufik Zoelkifli, known as MTZ, assessed that the decision to continue the construction of the Jakarta LRT line to Dukuh Atas is appropriate. It is considered the most realistic option at present, amid cuts to revenue-sharing funds (DBH) by the central government. “For the Dukuh Atas route, it is just a matter of continuing from Manggarai, so the budget might be more feasible for now,” MTZ said when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday (30/6/2026). He acknowledged that building the Jakarta LRT to Dukuh Atas or to JIS are equally important. However, the construction cannot be carried out simultaneously. Moreover, the budget requirement for the northern Jakarta LRT line will certainly be substantial. Nevertheless, the Head of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction in the DKI Jakarta DPRD assessed that the provincial government must remain committed to continuing the LRT development to the northern region. This is because public transport services in North Jakarta are still relatively minimal compared to other areas. “After Dukuh Atas, it must be continued to the north,” MTZ stated. Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B project will be completed in the near future. He is targeting the rail-based transport service connecting Kelapa Gading to Manggarai to be finished and operational by August 2026. “Hopefully this monorail (Jakarta LRT) will be inaugurated in August. The monorail is 12.5 kilometres long, with 11 stations from Velodrome (Pegangsaan Dua) to Manggarai,” Pramono said at the North Jakarta District Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday.
