Surabaya (ANTARA) - Member of the East Java Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Cahyo Harjo Prakoso, believes that the change in leadership at the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is a step towards refining the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme to ensure it becomes more effective, measurable, and provides maximum benefits.

“This change in leadership demonstrates the government’s response to various inputs and public aspirations regarding the implementation of the MBG programme. It is part of an effort to refine the system so that the programme can run more efficiently,” said Cahyo in Surabaya on Wednesday.

According to him, the step taken by President Prabowo Subianto reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that one of the national priority programmes achieves its objectives, particularly in improving the nutritional quality of Indonesian children. He appreciated the evaluation conducted by the central government and assessed that the policy demonstrates seriousness in maintaining the quality of programme implementation, which has garnered significant public attention.

“The Free Nutritious Meal programme is a strategic programme expected to provide a real impact on improving the quality of Indonesia’s human resources. Therefore, refining governance is essential,” he stated.

As a member of Commission E of the East Java DPRD, which oversees public welfare, Cahyo expressed readiness to support various improvement measures undertaken by the central government and the new BGN leadership. He also encouraged stronger synergy between the central government, the BGN, local governments, and all stakeholders to maintain the quality and sustainability of the programme.

Cahyo emphasised that the MBG programme is a long-term government investment in building a healthy and high-quality generation. “This programme is a form of the state’s presence in meeting the nutritional needs of Indonesian children while preparing the nation’s strength for the future,” he said.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto appointed Nanik S. Deyang as the new Head of the National Nutrition Agency, replacing Dadan Hindayana. The President also appointed Agustina Arumsari and Major General TNI Trenggono as Deputy Heads of the BGN, replacing Lodewijk Pusung and Sony Sonjaya.
