Andika Wisnuadji Putra Soebroto, a member of the Democratic Party faction of the Jakarta DPRD, emphasised that the increase in entrance fees for Ragunan Zoo, South Jakarta, from Rp4,000 to Rp10,000 must be accompanied by real benefits for the community and the welfare of the animals at the site.

“I emphasise that the benefits of this price increase can be felt directly by the public, especially through better facilities in the future,” Andika said in Jakarta on Friday.

He stated that the price hike must go hand-in-hand with improvements in facilities and the quality of service for visitors at Ragunan Zoo. According to him, if facilities and service quality are enhanced, the public paying higher ticket prices will directly experience the benefits of the policy.

“In this way, the increase in ticket prices will not affect the number of visitors to Ragunan Zoo in the future,” said Andika.

“Animal welfare must also improve, and the variety of animals should increase so that the enthusiasm of residents, particularly those in Jakarta, for Ragunan Zoo continues to grow,” added the member of Commission C of the Jakarta DPRD.

The youngest member of the Jakarta DPRD also reminded that the tariff increase could serve as a step towards reducing Ragunan Zoo’s dependence on the Jakarta Regional Budget (APBD).

To this end, he requested that the increased revenue from entrance fees be accompanied by good management, enabling Ragunan Zoo to become more self-sufficient in financing its operational needs and development.

“In the future, Ragunan can become more independent without requiring subsidies from the Jakarta Provincial Government,” Andika concluded.
