Semarang (ANTARA) - Member of Commission VII of the House of Representatives Siti Mukaromah is encouraging the formation of NU Muslimat paralegal volunteers down to the village level in Central Java.

“In Central Java, there are currently around 500 NU Muslimat paralegal volunteers spread across 38 branches,” said Siti Mukaromah during the inauguration of the Central Java Regional NU Muslimat Paralegal in Semarang on Saturday.

These paralegals, she continued, are already spread down to the sub-district level.

According to her, with the formation of paralegals down to the branch level, NU Muslimat cadres can oversee their respective villages.

The head of advocacy for NU Muslimat Central Java highlighted the important role of paralegals in advocating for women and children.

“Violence against women and children is rampant. This situation impacts children’s mental health,” she said.

She explained that the NU Muslimat Central Java paralegal volunteers have undergone selection and training processes.

“These paralegal volunteers have gone through procedures and gained knowledge to digest and listen to community complaints,” she added.

Previously, 400 NU Muslimat Central Java members were inaugurated as paralegals, representing the tangible presence of the organisation at the grassroots level.

Central Leadership of NU Muslimat Chair Arifatul Choiri Fauzi described the existence of these paralegals as another face of NU Muslimat’s strength.
