She described the policy restricting social media use for children under 16 as a strategic step to safeguard the growth and development of Indonesia’s youth.

“As a member of DPR Commission VIII and a mother, I see this policy not merely as a restriction, but as protection and a long-term investment for our children’s future,” she said here on Sunday.

The legislator, who is part of the commission that handles women and children’s protection issues, emphasized that children need healthy spaces to grow, develop self-identity, and strengthen character amid the fast-paced digital environment.

“We want Indonesian children to grow into a generation that is not only digitally literate but also emotionally, socially, and spiritually strong,” she said.

Rahmania warned that early exposure to social media risks undermining family values, reducing warm interactions, and weakening children’s identity formation.

She said PP Tunas should restore the family’s role as the primary education center. According to her, children need more interaction with parents to learn love, empathy, and responsibility in real life, not just online.

“The state is present to ensure our children do not lose their childhood behind screens. Let’s use this momentum to bring children back to family warmth and real social interaction,” she added.

She emphasized that children today must grow into a generation that is active in society, capable of building real relationships, and able to contribute to their surroundings rather than simply being absorbed in screens.

Effective March 28, PP Tunas obliges all digital business entities to comply, initially targeting high-risk platforms including YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, Instagram, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox.
