Legislator: Government Still Intervenes in Non-Subsidised Fuel Prices
Chairman of Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Bambang Patijaya, stated that the price of non-subsidised fuel oil continues to receive government intervention, even though its pricing is adjusted to market mechanisms. He noted that Pertamina disclosed the cost for one litre of Pertamax RON 92 reaches 1.1 US dollars, or around Rp19,000. However, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources asked Pertamina to sell it at Rp16,250 in most regions. “What does this mean? Actually, for non-subsidised prices, Pertamina is also not allowed to sell at full economic prices. This means the public must know that for non-subsidised goods, the government is intervening,” said Bambang Patijaya in Jakarta on Thursday. Meanwhile, regarding subsidised fuel, he confirmed that the supply of the commodity is secure until the end of the year. He also stated that the national supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas is currently maintained at over 12 days. He assessed that the government’s ability to diversify the oil and gas commodity supply chain from several global producers is a key factor in restoring domestic energy supply stability amidst the heated geopolitical situation in the Middle East. Bambang said this is inseparable from the government’s anticipatory policy of establishing procurement cooperation for oil and gas commodities with several countries. He also highlighted international recognition of the government’s efforts to maintain national energy security, including a release from J.P. Morgan last March which ranked Indonesia as the number two country with the best energy resilience out of 52 countries evaluated by the financial services institution. “This is not just a pleasing release, but it also illustrates Indonesia’s effort in overcoming all of this,” he said. Bambang also appreciated the government’s commitment to realising a sustainable energy transition by increasing the biofuel blend. The B40 Biodiesel programme will be optimised to B50 starting 1 July 2026 to strengthen the independence of the national energy sector. “This is also extraordinary, no other country in the world today is implementing a 50 per cent blend between diesel and vegetable oil,” he said. Pertamina Patra Niaga announced an increase in the price of Pertamax and Pertamax Green fuel products starting 10 June 2026. According to a company press release received in Jakarta on Tuesday, starting 10 June 2026, the price of non-subsidised Pertamax fuel rose from Rp12,300 to Rp16,250 per litre and Pertamax Green 95 rose from Rp12,900 to Rp17,000 per litre.
