Legislator Demands Police Conduct Thorough Investigation into Acid Attack on KontraS Activist
JAKARTA — A member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Abdullah, has urged the National Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the acid attack against Andrie Yunus, an activist with the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS).
In addition, Abdullah called on law enforcement authorities to apprehend the perpetrator and uncover the motive behind the attack.
“The attack on Andrie Yunus not only threatens the personal safety of the victim, but can also be understood as terror against democratic space and civil liberties,” Abdullah said when contacted on Friday, 13 March 2026.
This principle, he noted, is guaranteed under Article 28E(3) of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia and Law Number 39 of 1999 on Human Rights.
Furthermore, Abdullah called on the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) to immediately provide protection to the victim and his family.
He also urged the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) to conduct monitoring and independent investigation to ensure that the handling of the case proceeds objectively and with accountability.
According to him, such an act constitutes a serious crime.
“I strongly condemn the acid attack against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. This kind of violence is a serious crime that must not be tolerated in a democratic rule of law,” he said.
