Abdullah, a member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged confinement and torture of a woman with the initials YTR (29) by a man with the initials TH in Bandung Regency, West Java. Abdullah urged that TH be immediately arrested and charged with multiple layered offences. “TH must be charged with layered articles, ranging from unlawful confinement and grievous bodily harm to other criminal acts proven during the investigation process,” Abdullah told reporters on Monday (22/6/2026). Abdullah called for the perpetrator, said to be the victim’s boyfriend, to be punished to the fullest extent of the law. He wants TH to be held accountable for his actions. “Law enforcement must be carried out maximally to deliver justice for the victim and provide a deterrent effect for the perpetrator,” said Abdullah. “We hope the perpetrator is swiftly arrested to answer for his deeds. What the perpetrator did was extremely inhumane,” he continued. Abdullah also wants the police to investigate whether there are other victims in this case. The National Awakening Party (PKB) legislator assessed that the perpetrator’s actions constitute human rights violations. “It must be traced how many victims there are, including the forms of crime committed by the perpetrator. The various criminal acts committed against the victim are violations of human rights (HAM),” he said. The case previously came to light after YTR was allegedly confined and abused for approximately three years in a rented room in the Cileunyi area of Bandung Regency. As a result of the alleged violence she endured, the victim is in a concerning physical condition. She is reported to have impaired vision, injuries to her lips, difficulty speaking, and an inability to walk normally. The family reported the case to the West Java Regional Police on 12 June 2026. Before she was found, the family stated they had been unaware of the victim’s whereabouts for years. According to the family’s account, YTR was even considered missing for roughly three years before finally being discovered in a distressing state. The case is now under public and law enforcement scrutiny, while the investigation into the whereabouts and alleged involvement of the perpetrator is still ongoing.
