Legislator Condemns Acid Attack on KontraS Activist: Serious Assault

Democratic Party (NasDem) Commission III member of the House of Representatives Rudianto Lallo responded to the case of an acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), by unknown perpetrators in the Salemba area, Central Jakarta. Rudianto condemned the act.

“Certainly we are concerned and condemn this act. We condemn the incident of acid being poured on an activist,” Rudianto told journalists on Friday (13 March 2026).

Rudianto also urged police to dismantle the case. The perpetrator and those behind it must be arrested.

Additionally, the motive for the acid attack must be revealed to the public. “This acid attack is a criminal act. An act of violence that cannot be justified for any reason whatsoever,” he explained.

For him, the perpetrator should not be allowed to go free, as it could pose a threat to anyone.

“This acid attack is certainly a form of aggravated assault,” Rudianto stated.

The acid attack allegedly occurred on Thursday (12 March) around 11:30 pm on Salemba Street, Senen District, Central Jakarta. Police are currently investigating the case as suspected aggravated assault.

Investigators are currently conducting investigation procedures, including examining the crime scene and collecting digital evidence such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings. So far, two witnesses have been questioned, and this number may increase as the investigation deepens.

Andrie Yunus’s condition is dire. He suffered burns to his face, chest, and hands.

Police Guarantee Thorough Investigation

The Indonesian National Police guarantee the case will be thoroughly investigated. Police have checked CCTV footage and questioned several witnesses.

“On this occasion, we should convey that the National Police Chief, as the leader of the Indonesian National Police, has given special attention to the handling and investigation of this case,” said National Police Public Relations Division Head Major General Johnny Eddizon Isir at National Police headquarters, South Jakarta, on Friday (13 March 2026).

Isir stated that the case is being handled by the Central Jakarta Police. He mentioned that Metro Jaya Police and the Criminal Investigation Directorate are also assisting to accelerate the investigation of the case.

“Furthermore, as a follow-up to the attention and direction given by the National Police Chief, the handling conducted by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Central Jakarta Police Station receives support from both Metro Jaya Police and the Criminal Investigation Directorate, particularly from colleagues at National Police headquarters,” said Isir.

“The Indonesian National Police also ensures that the investigation and prosecution process, as part of law enforcement, is conducted using scientific methods,” he added.
