Jakarta (ANTARA) - Abdullah, a member of Commission III of the DPR, is pushing for tightened oversight of digital spaces following the exposure of live-streaming practices containing pornographic content on the TikTok and Tevi applications.

In a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, Abdullah noted that the case uncovered by the Cyber Crime Directorate (Dittipidsiber) of the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) demonstrates that social media still possesses the potential for misuse.

“The National Police must intensify monitoring in cyberspace. We must not allow social media to be exploited by certain parties to spread pornographic content for profit,” he said.

The police revealed that perpetrators utilised live-streaming features on social media to attract viewers, who were then redirected to other applications to access more vulgar content.

According to Abdullah, such patterns require serious attention from law enforcement agencies because the methods of spreading pornographic content in digital spaces continue to evolve alongside technology and social media user interaction patterns.

“If there are content creators moving towards pornographic content, it must be prevented quickly. We should not wait until the content spreads further and is viewed by many people,” he stated.

For prevention, Abdullah emphasised that it must go hand-in-hand with enforcement. If any party is proven to be spreading pornographic content, authorities should immediately take action in accordance with applicable legal provisions.

“If they are proven to be spreading pornographic content, they must be dealt with immediately. The National Police must not be negligent in monitoring social media,” said the legislator specialising in law enforcement.

On the other hand, he encouraged strengthened cooperation between the National Police and the Ministry of Communication and Digital. Synergy between these institutions must be tightened so that pornographic content can be detected more rapidly and its spread can be prevented.

The Director of Cyber Crime at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General Adex Yudiswan, explained that in the first case, investigators secured three suspects, identified by the initials RA (20), RY (26), and MK (21), in the Bandung and Cianjur areas of West Java.

“In carrying out their actions, RA acted as the talent, while RY acted as the host. Both conducted live broadcasts through the ‘Coin Battle’ (PK) feature to increase viewership and interaction,” said Adex on Wednesday (9/9).

During the TikTok live stream, RA was intentionally made to lose the coin battle feature, leading to actions involving the opening and closing of clothing. Meanwhile, RY directed viewers to ‘tap’ the screen until reaching a target of approximately 5,000 to 10,000 taps.

Adex added that RY then directed viewers to move to the Tevi application by offering follow-up broadcasts featuring more vulgar content from RA.

“Viewers wishing to follow the subsequent broadcast were required to make a deposit and purchase ‘stars’ for access, costing approximately Rp5,000,” he said.

In a second case, investigators uncovered pornographic live-streaming practices in the Lampung, Yogyakarta, and West Java regions. In this operation, three individuals were detained: PA (31), DI (36), and SS (25).

The modus operandi involved the talent performing indecent acts by exposing intimate areas. Subsequently, the host would direct viewers to provide donations, tips, or gifts, with target amounts ranging from approximately Rp250,000 to Rp400,000.
