Legislator calls for safety audit of all Jakarta development projects

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Kevin Wu, a member of Commission A of the Jakarta DPRD, has requested the Inspectorate to audit all projects under the coordination of the Jakarta Provincial Government, including projects funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) schemes.

This request follows an incident in which a toddler passed away after falling into an excavation hole at a park construction site in the Manggarai area, Tebet, South Jakarta.

“Safety standards must be seriously evaluated,” Kevin stated in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to Kevin, a compliance audit would serve as a preventive measure to identify potential risks. Furthermore, he believes that a compliance audit could improve the oversight system for projects on the ground.

Regarding the case, Kevin respects the ongoing legal process, noting that every citizen has the right to obtain justice in accordance with applicable regulations.

Additionally, he has called on law enforcement agencies to investigate the case objectively and transparently. If elements of negligence are found, those responsible must undergo the legal process as prescribed by the regulations.

Kevin believes this incident serves as a momentum to strengthen the governance of development projects in Jakarta. For him, development must proceed in tandem with the protection of public safety.
