Legislator calls for safety audit of all Jakarta development projects

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission A member Kevin Wu has asked the Inspectorate to audit all projects under the coordination of the Jakarta Provincial Government, including projects funded through corporate social responsibility (CSR) schemes. The request follows an incident in which a toddler died after falling into an excavation pit at a park development project in the Manggarai area, Tebet, South Jakarta. “Safety standards must be evaluated seriously,” Kevin said in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to Kevin, a compliance audit would be a preventive measure to identify potential risks. Moreover, a compliance audit is also considered capable of improving the project supervision system in the field. Regarding the case, Kevin respects the ongoing legal process. Every citizen has the right to obtain justice in accordance with applicable regulations. In addition, he also asked law enforcement officials to investigate the case objectively and transparently. If there is an element of negligence, the responsible party must undergo the process according to regulations. Kevin assessed that the incident is a momentum to strengthen the governance of development projects in Jakarta. For him, development must go hand in hand with the protection of public safety.
