Legislator Calls for Improved Hajj Services for Elderly Pilgrims
Pamekasan - DPR RI Commission VIII member Ansari has urged the Hajj Organising Committee to enhance services and support for elderly and high-risk pilgrims.
“This is crucial to highlight as our evaluation found that assistance for elderly and high-risk pilgrims has been inadequate, necessitating improvements in the future,” he said in a written statement from Pamekasan, East Java, Monday night.
The East Java representative noted that during Hajj operations, some high-risk and elderly pilgrims were treated the same as those in good health, despite needing special attention.
“I have communicated this to the committee to ensure better services moving forward,” he added.
He stated that of the 380 pilgrims in the group, 37 were high-risk, 46 medium-risk, and 109 low-risk.
“During departure to Masjidil Haram, there were no dedicated staff to assist elderly and high-risk groups,” he said.
However, Ansari noted strong solidarity among pilgrims, with others helping elderly and high-risk individuals board buses and providing wheelchairs for disabled pilgrims.
“Overall orderliness was good, but special services for elderly and high-risk groups require improvement,” said the legislator representing Madura’s 11th electoral district.
