Legislator Calls for Coretax System Audit Following Disruptions Ahead of SPT Deadline
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The implementation of the Coretax system by the Directorate General of Taxation has once again come under scrutiny ahead of the deadline for submitting Annual Income Tax Return (SPT) notifications on 30 April 2026. The disruptions that occurred are seen as potentially affecting taxpayer compliance. Member of the House of Representatives Commission XI, Said Abdullah, believes that strengthening the tax technology system is an urgent need to support more integrated administration and increase state revenue. However, Said stated that its execution must be accompanied by thorough technical preparedness. According to him, the Coretax system should undergo various testing stages before being widely implemented, from security testing to load testing (traffic). This is important to ensure the system is ready for public use without significant obstacles. He emphasised that tax revenue is the backbone of financing government programmes and development. Said also questioned the maintenance pattern of the system, which he deemed not yet optimal. He assessed that maintenance should be carried out outside peak hours, such as at night, as is common practice in the banking sector. In addition, he highlighted the possibility of system weaknesses or suboptimal contingency plans. “There needs to be a system audit to detect weaknesses and ensure such incidents do not recur,” he said. On the other hand, he reminded that up to the last day of SPT submission, there are still around 3.3 million taxpayers who have not submitted their reports, even though the government has extended the initial deadline from 31 March to 30 April 2026. According to Said, if system constraints become a hindrance, taxpayers cannot be entirely blamed.
