Legislator Appreciates SOE Transformation Proceeding Without Mass Layoffs

Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VI, Rahmat Saleh, has expressed appreciation for the transformation of state-owned enterprises (BUMN), which he assessed is proceeding while prioritising efficiency without mass layoffs. Rahmat believes this approach demonstrates that the restructuring of BUMN is being carried out in a measured manner and is oriented towards the national interest. Rahmat conveyed his appreciation to the Head of the BUMN Supervisory Board (BP BUMN) and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Danantara Indonesia, Dony Oskaria, who is considered capable of executing the BUMN transformation with a professional business approach. “The COO of Danantara is a pure professional. He works based on state business calculations, not group interests. BUMN must truly return to serving the people,” Rahmat said in a statement on Wednesday (1/7/2026). According to Rahmat, the BUMN transformation being carried out by the government is beginning to show positive results. This is evident from the improved performance of several BUMNs that have recorded profit growth. Rahmat also assessed that the policy of streamlining the number of BUMNs is being conducted carefully to increase the efficiency of state companies without sacrificing the interests of workers. “What deserves appreciation is that the reduction in the number of BUMNs is being carried out without relying on mass layoffs. This shows the transformation is being done with careful planning,” Rahmat stated. He considers the restructuring of persistently loss-making companies to be an important step in maintaining the health of state finances while increasing the competitiveness of BUMNs. Rahmat also supported Dony Oskaria’s move to collaborate with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in overseeing national strategic projects, including downstreaming programmes and strengthening corporate governance. According to him, this step reflects a commitment to building BUMNs that are transparent, accountable, and free from corrupt practices. “Mr Dony has demonstrated strong leadership. He dares to make the right business decisions while still prioritising the principles of good governance. BUMN must indeed be managed professionally so that the benefits are truly felt by the people,” Rahmat said.
