Legislator Appreciates SOE Transformation Proceeding Without Mass Layoffs
Rahmat Saleh, a member of Commission VI of the House of Representatives (DPR), has expressed his appreciation for the transformation of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), which is deemed to be progressing by prioritising efficiency without resorting to mass layoffs. Rahmat believes this approach demonstrates that the restructuring of SOEs is being conducted in a measured manner and is oriented towards the interests of the state.
Rahmat extended his appreciation to the Head of the SOE Management Agency and also the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Danantara Indonesia, Dony Oskaria, who is regarded as being capable of executing the SOE transformation through a professional business approach.
“The COO of Danantara is a pure professional. He works based on the state’s business calculations, rather than group interests. SOEs must truly return to serving the people,” Rahmat stated in his remarks on Wednesday (1/7/2026).
According to Rahmat, the SOE transformation implemented by the government is beginning to show positive results. This is evident from the improved performance of several SOEs, which have recorded profit growth.
Rahmat also noted that the policy to simplify the number of SOEs is being carried out carefully to increase the efficiency of state companies without sacrificing the interests of workers.
“What deserves appreciation is that the reduction in the number of SOEs is being conducted without relying on mass layoffs. This shows that the transformation is being carried out with mature planning,” said Rahmat.
He assessed that the restructuring of loss-making companies is a vital step in maintaining the state’s financial health while simultaneously enhancing the competitiveness of SOEs.
Rahmat also supported the steps taken by Dony Oskaria in collaborating with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to oversee national strategic projects, including downstreaming programmes and the strengthening of corporate governance. In his view, such steps reflect a commitment to building SOEs that are transparent, accountable, and free from corrupt practices.
“Mr Dony demonstrates strong leadership. He is brave enough to make the right business decisions while still prioritising the principles of good governance. SOEs must indeed be managed professionally so that their benefits can truly be felt by the people,” Rahmat added.
