JAKARTA (JP): Minister of People's Housing Akbar Tanjung inaugurated yesterday the development of a large-scale housing project, called Legend City, at the Shangri-La Hotel.
The housing project, which will cover an area of 2,000 hectares in Bekasi, West Java, will be carried out by PT Putra Alvita Pratama, a consortium of seven private housing companies, in three districts: Bantar Gebang, Tambun and Cibitung in Bekasi.
Deddy Kusuma, managing director of PT Putra Alvita Pratama, said that the project, which will progress in stages over 15 to 20 years, would be located in eight villages: Mustika Jaya, Cimuning, Pedurenan, Lambang Sari, Cibuntu, Mustika Sari, Lambang Jaya and Jatimulya.
He said that 60 percent of the total area would be earmarked for the construction of houses and business facilities, while the remaining 40 percent would be developed as public facilities and green belts.
"Out of the 2,000 hectares, 1,300 hectares were procured through negotiations with the local people in the period between 1989 and 1990. Payments were made directly to the land owners, without any middlemen," company director Herman Soedarsono said. (hhr)
