Immanuel ‘Noel’ Ebenezer Gerungan, the Deputy Minister of Manpower for the 202pend 2024–2025 period, has been sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison. He was found guilty of receiving gratifications related to alleged extortion involving Occupational Health and Safety (K3) certificates and other bribes within the Ministry of Manpower during 2024–2025. Presiding Judge Nur Sari Baktiana ruled that Noel received gratifications worth Rp3.43 billion in non-technical fees for K3 certificate processing, as well as a Ducati Scrambler motorcycle. The verdict was delivered at the Corruption Court of the Central Jakarta District Court on Thursday.

The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) stated that three suspects in the alleged corruption case involving the management of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme are suspected of embezzling incentives provided by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to Nutrition Service Implementation Units (SPPG). The suspects include the former Head of the BGN, Dadan Hindayana, and two former Deputy Heads, Lodewyk Pusung and Sony Sonjaya. The Director of Investigation at the Attorney General’s Office, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, noted that the BGN provides incentives of Rp6 million per day to the SPPG.

KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto stated at the KPK headquarters on Thursday that these payments were estimated to occur every Friday. Furthermore, the KPK suspects that Silmy Karim began requesting these funds during his tenure as the Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights from 2023-2024.

President Prabowo Subianto has officially removed Silmy Karim from his position as Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services in Jakarta on Thursday. This follows the KPK’s designation of Silmy as a suspect in relation to alleged extortion and bribery. ‘We inform you that this afternoon, the President has signed the dismissal letter,’ stated the Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi, at the Presidential Palace on Thursday night. In the same briefing, Prasetyo Hadi expressed the government’s appreciation to all law enforcement agencies for their hard work in combating corruption.
