Legal Functions Expected to Play Greater Role Amid Global Uncertainty
The world is currently in a phase of high uncertainty. Geopolitical tensions, supply chain fragmentation, global economic slowdown, commodity price pressures, and the acceleration of digital transformation and artificial intelligence are forcing businesses to continuously adapt.
Businesses also face growing demands for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance, transparency, corporate governance, data protection, supply chain sustainability, and increasingly stringent cross-jurisdictional regulatory standards.
Arkka Dhiratara, CEO of Hukumonline, said these conditions have transformed legal and compliance functions from a back-office role into strategic enablers for business. He made the statement during his speech at the Indonesia Regulatory Compliance Awards (IRCA) 2026 event hosted by Hukumonline at the Le Meridien Hotel in Jakarta on Friday, 22 May 2026.
According to Arkka, the role of legal and compliance functions now extends beyond ensuring adherence to existing policies, also enabling companies to move faster, adapt more readily, and make more confident decisions amid change.
At the IRCA 2026 event, awards were presented for corporate compliance with the law. Among the 130-plus companies from 23 industries participating, PT Kideco Jaya Agung (Kideco), a subsidiary of PT Indika Energy Tbk, won two awards.
Kideco received the Sapphire award in the Prosper B classification for the Mineral and Coal category as Best Enterprise in Regulatory Compliance, along with The Most Inspiring Leader in Regulatory Compliance award for its Legal and Corporate Affairs Director, Arif Kayanto.
Kideco’s Deputy Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs, Wicaksono W. Santoso, said the accolades serve as a strong motivation for the company to maintain the highest governance standards.
