Legal Counsel Seeks Suspension of Detention for Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa
Jakarta - Legal counsel for Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa, Refly Harun, confirmed they will file for a suspension of detention after both clients were taken into custody by investigators. “There will definitely be legal steps, the first of which is we will request a suspension of detention. Because we see no reason for the detention,” Refly said when met at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital, East Jakarta, on Friday.
According to Refly, the detention lacks strong justification as Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa have been cooperative throughout the legal process. “No one is trying to flee. They are cooperative, even complying with mandatory reporting. So what is the importance of detaining them?” Refly questioned.
Furthermore, the detention carried out just before the case file is handed over to the prosecution was deemed excessive. Refly explained that the transfer of the case file is only a matter of days away, so there is no urgent need for detention. “What is the importance of detaining them? The handover to the Prosecution is just on Monday, so in my opinion it is excessive to carry out a detention,” Refly stated.
Refly added that following the detention, the families of Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa arrived to provide support. Roy Suryo’s wife was present in person, while Dr Tifa’s family came to offer moral support as the legal process unfolded. “I have already met their families. Mas Roy’s wife is accompanying him, Dr Tifa’s family also came. Who would want their husband to be arrested,” Refly said.
According to Refly, the situation is a heavy blow for the families. Therefore, the legal team is striving to fight for their clients’ rights during the investigation process. The suspects in the alleged defamation and slander case regarding the authenticity of the diploma of Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, known as Dr Tifa, underwent health examinations at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital in East Jakarta. Both arrived at the hospital around 5:55 PM Western Indonesian Time and were immediately taken to the Emergency Department. They arrived under tight escort from Polda Metro Jakarta.
Earlier, information circulated from the Anti-Criminalisation Advocacy Team for Academics & Activists stating that on Friday, 19 June 2026, at around 7:00 AM Western Indonesian Time, Roy Suryo Notodiprojo was reported by his wife to have been arrested by Polda Metro Jaya investigators. Meanwhile, the Dr Tifa Defence Team explained that Dr Tifa was arrested by police at her apartment on Friday morning at around 6:47 AM Western Indonesian Time.
