Legal Counsel Protests Raudi Akmal's Detention, Claims Client Is Still Ill
The legal team for Sleman Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) member Raudi Akmal (RA) has protested the Sleman District Attorney’s Office’s (Kejari Sleman) decision to immediately detain their client after he was named a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving tourism grants for Sleman Regency in 2020, on Monday evening (22/6/2026).
Raudi’s legal counsel, Soepriyadi, stated the detention was carried out when his client’s health had not fully recovered. He said the results of a medical examination from the Sleman Regional General Hospital (RSUD Sleman) indicated his client was ill and not fit to undergo coercive measures such as detention.
According to him, during the examination, Raudi’s blood pressure reached 150, and he was still in a recovery period after undergoing hospital treatment several days prior. ‘The doctor at RSUD Sleman stated that he (RA) was ill and it was not possible to perform any action or coercive measure. His condition is also still recovering because he was discharged from the hospital around three to four days ago,’ Soepriyadi told reporters at the Sleman District Attorney’s Office on Monday evening.
He questioned the prosecution’s decision to then request a re-examination at the Kejari Sleman’s internal clinic. According to Soepriyadi, despite the examination showing the same blood pressure results, the clinic’s doctor declared Raudi healthy and fit to be detained. The legal team deemed this condition anomalous. ‘How can a blood pressure of 150 be declared healthy? What is going on here? Is there an intention to force the detention?’ he said. ‘We see that the Sleman District Attorney’s Office is disregarding our client’s human rights. How can a sick person be forced into detention with the alibi of a clinic doctor saying he is healthy? That is not right. That is my criticism. That is my opinion,’ he added.
