Legal Counsel: Jokowi Has No Interest in Whether Roy Suryo Is Detained or Not
Legal counsel for the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, or Jokowi, Rivai Kusumanegara, has emphasised that his client has no interest regarding the detention of Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa in the case involving allegations of fake diplomas.
“Neither Mr Jokowi nor we, his legal advisors, have had any interest in whether there is detention or not, consistently from last year until yesterday, including long before the detention occurred last year, which was also delayed following medical procedures. We have consistently stated that Mr Jokowi has no interest in whether they are detained or not,” said Rivai during the Head to Head programme on CNN Indonesia TV on Wednesday night (24/6).
He stated that Jokowi is fully aware that the detention of Roy and Tifa falls under the authority of the relevant law enforcement agencies.
“Investigators detain for the purpose of investigation. Prosecutors detain for the purpose of prosecution. There is no interest for any other party, let alone external variables,” he said.
Rivai added that Jokowi simply wants the case to be brought to court to achieve certainty regarding the controversy surrounding his diploma.
He mentioned that Jokowi wishes for his reputation to be restored if the court proves his diploma is authentic.
“If it is indeed authentic and verified by the court, then he wants his good name to be restored, because this issue has become a widespread topic, even being consumed by many countries,” he said.
Previously, the Metro Jaya Regional Police transferred Roy, Tifa, and the relevant evidence regarding the allegations of Jokowi’s fake diploma to the South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office on Monday (22/6).
Following the second stage of the transfer process, the South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office decided not to detain Roy and Tifa. However, both are required to report to the authorities once a week.
The Head of the South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office, Marcelo Bellah, revealed that the trial for Roy and Tifa in this matter will be held at the East Jakarta District Court (PN Jaktim). However, he did not disclose the reason why the trial would be held at the East Jakarta court.
Marcelo only stated that the trial process would be held as soon as possible, as the case is classified as a significant matter.
Most recently, the South Jakarta District Attorney’s Office also transferred the case files of Roy and Tifa to the East Jakarta District Court on Tuesday (23/6) at approximately 14:45 WIB.
