Legal Counsel for West Java Deputy Governor to Report 11 Social Media Accounts for Defamation
Jandri Ginting, the legal counsel for West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan, has announced plans to report 11 social media accounts suspected of defaming his client and his family. The move comes as the Deputy Governor’s name continues to be dragged into a fraud case between Sherly Setiawati and Andri Somantri.
Ginting stated that his client had previously chosen not to overreact to the case, hoping that the legal dispute between Sherly Ingga Setiawati and Andri Somantri could be resolved amicably. “It is clear that our silence did not mean we were unwilling to take a stand. We remained quiet because we were still giving Sherly a chance to mediate or make a payment to Andri,” he said on Saturday (25/7/2026).
He stressed that the dispute is strictly a legal matter between Sherly Ingga Setiawati and Andri Somantri and does not involve Erwan Setiawan. The legal team is now preparing to take action against Andri and several social media accounts, including influencers, who are allegedly spreading information that harms the reputation of the Deputy Governor and his family. “The legal relationship is between Sherly and Andri. But we can no longer remain silent. We will report Andri and the social media accounts, including influencers, who have been smearing the Deputy Governor’s name, whom we suspect are acting on Andri’s orders,” he revealed.
Ginting confirmed that his team has identified at least 11 social media accounts actively spreading these narratives. He emphasised that all legal steps will be pursued based on the evidence collected by the legal team. “There are 11 recorded accounts that have been defaming Mr Erwan, including his brother Daffa,” he said. The Deputy Governor’s name was previously linked to an alleged fraud and embezzlement case involving bailout funds of IDR 3 billion, which is currently being handled by the West Java Regional Police. The legal counsel has firmly denied any legal connection or flow of funds to the Deputy Governor in the matter.
