The legal counsel for former Bekasi Regent Ade Kunang has denied that his client provided instructions or managed projects within the Bekasi Regency Government for the other defendant, Sarjan. It was revealed during the trial that the list of contractor companies was compiled internally by the Department of Water Resources, Highways, and Construction (SDABMBK).

“You heard for yourselves during the trial that the witnesses presented today have no connection to our client. Therefore, all those projects occurred in 2024,” stated Wayan, Ade Kunang’s lawyer, during the proceedings at the Corruption Court on Monday (18/5/2026), which featured four witnesses.

He explained that the list requested by his client through the secretary was not related to allegations of arranging projects or similar activities. He argued that the request for data fell within the authority of the regional head as part of the process of preparing the regional government’s budget plan.

“It was purely within the domain of authority of Mr Ade Kuswara, who at that time was serving as the Regent in his capacity as the executive,” he said. He emphasised that, as a regional head, the Regent possesses the authority to manage regional finances. “Therefore, when the data requested is within the domain of the regional executive, there is certainly no issue and nothing unusual here,” he added.
