Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Motorola was once the ruler of the foldable phone market in the early 2000s when it introduced the iconic clamshell format foldable device, the RAZR V3. However, as technology advanced and competition intensified, Motorola’s glory gradually eroded.

Samsung emerged as the king of the new foldable phone era, with innovation in a truly foldable display rather than just a folding frame like the Motorola RAZR V3 and other flip phones from the older era.

However, Motorola is slowly rising from the ashes and solidifying its position in the foldable phone market. Ahead of the launch of the Razr Fold, the company has begun dominating the foldable phone market in the United States and Latin America.

IDC reported that Motorola holds 50% of the foldable phone market in the US. The brand outperforms companies that entered the foldable phone market earlier, such as Samsung and Google.

Positive achievements are not limited to the US alone. The same report mentions Motorola controls 55% market share in Latin America and 13% in Europe.

Meanwhile, overall Motorola has a total foldable phone market share of 14%, according to 9to5Google, on Friday (13 March 2026).

Although performing well, Motorola also faces serious challenges. One is Apple, which is reportedly set to release its first foldable phone soon, as well as longstanding competitors such as Samsung and Honour.

The Razr Fold is a book-shaped foldable device that reportedly uses the Snapdragon 8 Generation 5 chipset. Its battery is sized at 6,000 mAh with 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

The device’s front display measures 6.6 inches and the inner display 8.1 inches. There are 32MP front cameras and 20MP cameras on the outer and inner sides of the phone.

The main rear camera consists of a 50MP Sony LYTIA sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 3x telephoto camera at 50MP.

The foldable device will be launched with a stylus pen and is priced at around €1,999 (approximately IDR 38.9 million). However, there is no confirmed launch date for the device yet.
