Lecturer who sexually assaulted woman in Parepare minimarket arrested

An academic identified by the initials S, 43, from Parepare in South Sulawesi, was captured on CCTV sexually assaulting a woman in a minimarket. He is currently in police custody. “Yes, we have secured a man with the initials S who works as a lecturer in connection with the offence of sexual assault,” said the head of the Parepare Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Muh Agus Purwanto, to DetikSulsel on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. The incident occurred at a minimarket on Jalan Jenderal Ahmad Yani, Soreang District, Parepare, on Sunday 1 March around 23:00 Wita. The victim was shopping for household goods when she suddenly was assaulted by the suspect. “At first the victim was still shopping in the minimarket. Then the victim took an item from a shelf. The suspect approached from behind and deliberately touched his genitals to the victim’s buttocks,” Agus explained. The assault was carried out twice. The victim who was subjected to the abuse then shouted for help and asked staff for assistance. “The victim immediately shouted and asked for help from the Alfamart employee present there,” he said. The victim then reported the assault to the Parepare Police. The suspect was subsequently secured by officers at his home in Lapadde, Parepare, on Monday, 2 March, at 11:30 Wita. “Our team conducted an investigation and received information that the suspect was at his home in the Lapadde Kilometer 6 area. Officers moved in to secure the suspect without resistance,” Agus said. The lecturer is currently detained at Parepare Police Headquarters for further examination. In initial questioning, the suspect admitted to assaulting the victim. “The results of interrogation show that the individual admitted and confirmed that he indeed carried out the sexual assault by rubbing his genitals against the victim’s body,” he said. In a video received by DetikSulsel, the victim is seen shopping with her child in the minimarket. The victim is seen picking items off a shelf. The suspect, wearing a brown gamis and a black kopiah, stood behind the victim. He appeared to rub his genitals against the back of the victim. The victim, realising what was happening, ran away. She ran towards the minimarket’s cashier area with her child.
