Lecturer slammed for discrediting Gus Dur

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Some 200 students from the State
Islamic Institute in Pekalongan, Central Java, protested on
Wednesday, condemning a lecturer they accused of discrediting
former president Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid.

The lecturer, Wamugi, switched on a VCD on Tuesday, depicting
Gus Dur giving a speech in a church and praying together with
Christians.

The demonstrators said the video airing at the campus'
language laboratory was politically motivated as it was nothing
to do with the lecturer's subject of study. --JP
