Lecturer appointed deputy minister

JAKARTA: A political analyst from the University of Indonesia
Maswadi Rauf was sworn in as deputy state minister for
administrative affairs in charge of the state apparatus
empowerment program on Friday.

State Minister for Administrative Affairs Feisal Tamin said
that Maswadi was chosen because of his intellectual competence.

Feisal also installed Sunaryo as deputy state minister for
administrative affairs in charge of human resources, and
Hardijanto as new chief of the National Administrative Body
(BKN), replacing Sunarti who is retiring.

Feisal said that efforts to build the state apparatus
continued to face challenges, hence the need for proper guidance.

"Such guidance is also necessary to maintain the neutrality of
the state apparatus," he added.

The implementation of Law No. 22/1999 on regional autonomy and
Law No. 25/1999 on revenue sharing between the central and
provincial governments, he said, has been overdone and it is
feared that this might divide civil servants.

Thus, he said, some government regulations on guidance for the
state apparatus will be revised. --Antara
