Lebaran Transport Command Post 2026 Closed, Transport Minister: Accident Rate Drops 6.13 Percent
Jakarta – The Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, reported that the number of accidents during the 2026 Lebaran transport period from 13 to 29 March 2026 totalled 3,517 incidents. During the closure of the 2026 Lebaran transport command post, Dudy confirmed that this figure represents a drop of approximately 6.13 percent compared to the same period last year. “Data from the Integrated Road Safety Management System of the National Traffic Corps shows there were 3,517 accident incidents, or a decrease of 6.13 percent compared to last year,” Dudy stated at the Ministry of Transportation in Jakarta on Monday, 30 March 2026. He also detailed a 31.19 percent reduction in fatality rates or the number of deaths during the 2026 Lebaran transport season. “And a 13.80 percent decrease in the number of accident victims suffering serious injuries,” he said. Although grateful for the decline in accident numbers and fatality rates during this year’s Lebaran transport season, Dudy stressed that it should serve as material for evaluation to enable further improvements ahead. “Thus, although these achievements are worth appreciating, they must also be used as evaluation material for future improvements,” Dudy said. Because, according to him, safety aspects must remain the top priority in transportation operations, particularly during the Lebaran transport season. Therefore, Dudy continued, there should be no tolerance in prioritising various aspects to support the creation of transportation safety. “Therefore, we must continue to strengthen aspects such as the airworthiness of facilities, readiness of infrastructure, and compliance with operational standards. This includes conducting ramp checks, field supervision, and integrated traffic control,” Dudy said. “Because public transportation must be an effort to move people and goods, while also providing a sense of safety, comfort, and certainty to the public,” he added.
