Lebaran Train Tickets Sell Out 3.6 Million, Check Remaining Seats and Popular Routes Here!
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has recorded a significant surge in ticket sales for the 2026 Lebaran transportation period. As of Friday (20/3) at 10:00 WIB, 3,699,687 tickets have been sold.
This figure equates to 82.2% of the total 4,498,696 seats provided for long-distance and local train services from 11 March to 1 April 2026. With this achievement, 799,009 seats are still available for the public to utilise.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that this increase in sales indicates that the public is increasingly choosing trains for Lebaran homecoming trips.
“The trend of homecoming travel by train continues to strengthen since mid-March. This is evident from the ticket sales that have increased gradually,” she said in an official statement on Friday (20/3).
For long-distance train services, ticket sales have reached 3,292,121 tickets or 92.2% of the total 3,571,760 seats provided. This means 279,639 seats are still available for the public to book for homecoming or return trips.
Meanwhile, for local train services managed by KAI, ticket sales are recorded at 407,566 tickets or 44.0% of the total 926,936 seats available. Thus, 519,370 seats remain available for customers.
Local train ticket sales are generally expected to continue moving closer to the departure date, as most services can only be booked starting from H-7.
During the first nine days of the Lebaran transportation period, from 11 to 19 March 2026, long-distance train services have served 1,527,549 customers across various routes on Java and Sumatra islands.
For today, customer movement is estimated to remain high. As of this morning, at least 196,314 long-distance train customers have been scheduled to travel, with a temporary occupancy rate of 120.1%. This number still has the potential to increase as ticket sales continue.
Anne added that in one long-distance train journey, one seat can be used by more than one customer on different routes. This scheme allows the number of customers served to be greater than the number of seats available in a single journey route.
Several trains with high demand during the 2026 Lebaran transportation period include KA Airlangga, KA Joglosemarkerto, KA Sri Tanjung, KA Bengawan, KA Kahuripan, KA Rajabasa, and KA Jayakarta.
Nevertheless, the public still has opportunities to obtain tickets for certain trips, including through alternative routes, different departure schedules, or connecting journey schemes.
For those who have not yet obtained tickets, KAI suggests several strategies: “KAI invites the public to plan their trips immediately so that homecoming proceeds comfortably, smoothly, and enjoyably,” said Anne.
