Lebaran Train Occupancy Reaches 97.7%, KAI Ensures Prime Service During Return Flow
The sale of Lebaran transport tickets by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) indicates high public interest in rail transportation. As of 25 March 2026 at 3:00 PM WIB, national ticket sales reached 4,394,930, or 97.7% of the total capacity provided for the period from 11 March to 1 April 2026. This high occupancy coincides with increased public movement during the Lebaran return flow phase. Trains have become a preferred mode of transport due to their comfort, punctuality, and schedule reliability. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that this trend shows a shift in public travel patterns towards more planned journeys. “Travel by train has continued to increase since mid-March and is now entering the return flow phase. Trains are chosen for their comfort, scheduling, and travel certainty,” said Anne. For long-distance train services, ticket sales reached 3,748,108, or 104.9% of the total capacity of 3,571,760 seats. Meanwhile, local trains recorded 646,822 tickets sold, or 69.8% of the total capacity of 926,936 seats. Seat availability remains open on certain routes not fully utilised by customers. During the 2026 Lebaran transport period, customer activity in various operational regions also showed significant figures. In Daop 9 Jember, ticket sales reached 207,931 passengers, while in Daop 8 Surabaya, it was 461,226 passengers. To ensure services remain optimal amid high passenger volumes, KAI management is conducting direct monitoring at several service points. This inspection covers operational readiness, station facilities, and customer experience during the journey. KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin emphasised that all service aspects are consistently maintained to ensure passenger comfort during the Lebaran transport period. “We ensure every service point runs optimally so that passengers experience a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable journey. From the station, on the train, to arrival at the destination, all are maintained with consistent service standards,” said Bobby. KAI continues to commit to providing reliable, safe, and comfortable transportation services for the public, especially during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return flow momentum.
