Lebaran Return Traffic to Jakarta Surges 99% Compared to Normal Conditions
Jakarta - Indonesian National Police (Polri) have recorded a 99.02 per cent increase in the number of vehicles entering Jakarta compared to normal conditions. This is a report on the implementation of Operation Ketupat 2026 on the 13th day, from Tuesday (24/3/2026) at 18.00 to Wednesday (25/3/2026) at 06.00 WIB. “A total of 256,338 vehicles entered the capital, up 99.02 per cent from normal volume and rising 14.87 per cent compared to last year,” said the Spokesperson for the Public Relations Task Force of Operation Ketupat 2026, Senior Commissioner Pol. Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, in his statement on Wednesday. However, Jansen added, the figure is down 11.98 per cent compared to last Lebaran. Despite the surge in return traffic, Polri assures that the public security and order situation (kamtibmas) up to the 13th day of Operation Ketupat 2026 remains safe and conducive. “Overall, the kamtibmas situation during the implementation of Operation Ketupat 2026 up to the 13th day is monitored as conducive, with no notable incidents,” he revealed. A total of 1,387 kamtibmas disturbances were recorded, comprising 1,288 crime cases, 18 violations, 8 disaster incidents, and 73 other disturbances. In the traffic sector, Polri recorded 226 accidents, with details of 12 fatalities, 73 seriously injured, and 440 lightly injured. Material losses from these accidents amounted to Rp 226.1 million. For law enforcement, Polri also recorded 10 violations via the electronic ticketing system (ETLE) and 27 warnings to road users as a preventive measure. For crossing modes, there were 1,438 ship trips carrying 496,130 passengers. Meanwhile, the railway mode served 1,475,203 passengers from 2,707 trips, and the aviation sector recorded 311,047 passengers from 2,473 flights. Polri advises the public to manage travel times well to avoid congestion, including utilising the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy. “The public is urged not to push themselves when tired, to use rest areas wisely, ensure vehicles are in prime condition, and comply with signs and instructions from officers on the ground,” he added. Polri reaffirms its commitment, together with all stakeholders, to maintain the smooth flow and security of both outbound and return Eid al-Fitr traffic in 2026.
