Lebaran Return Traffic in Surabaya Remains High
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA — The volume of Lebaran return traffic in the Daop 8 Surabaya region remains high today, Sunday (29/3/2026), with a total of 52,409 train passengers served. On the same day, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) announced that the 30 percent discount programme for economy commercial train tickets ends today, with more than 2,000 seats still available for the public to utilise.
Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Mahendro Trang Bawono, stated that of the total 52,409 passengers, 29,346 were arrivals (alighting) and 23,063 were departures (boarding) from various stations in the Surabaya and surrounding areas.
“This number still has the potential to increase as train departure and arrival schedules continue until late at night,” said Mahendro in Surabaya on Sunday.
The three stations with the highest passenger volumes were Surabaya Gubeng Station with 16,294 passengers (6,584 boarding, 9,710 alighting), followed by Surabaya Pasarturi Station with 15,104 passengers (6,467 boarding, 8,637 alighting), and Malang Station with 8,358 passengers (2,836 boarding, 5,522 alighting).
Overall, during the Lebaran Transport Period 2026 from 11 to 29 March 2026, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya has served a total of 902,543 passengers, consisting of 457,917 departing passengers and 444,626 arriving passengers. The peak return traffic occurred on 24 March 2026 with a total of 57,210 passengers—31,684 of whom arrived and 25,526 departed.
By the end of the transport period, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya projects a total of 990,294 passengers served, with details of 497,008 departing passengers and 493,286 arriving passengers.
Last Chance for 30 Percent Discount
Amid the high mobility of return traffic, Mahendro reminded that today is the final day of the 30 percent discount programme for economy commercial train tickets in the Daop 8 Surabaya region.
“Today is the last opportunity for the public to take advantage of the 30 percent discount with more than 2,000 tickets still available,” said Mahendro.
In total, the 30 percent discount programme provided 188,288 tickets for the entire Daop 8. To date, around 150,665 tickets have been sold. The highest sales during the outbound journey were recorded on 18 March 2026 with a total of 30,293 tickets, followed the next day, 19 March 2026, with 29,409 tickets.
“These high figures reflect the great enthusiasm of the public in travelling during the Lebaran Transport Period,” said Mahendro. Nevertheless, he assured that tickets for various dates and routes are still available in sufficient quantities.
