The Lebaran return flow period is often used by the public to bring souvenirs for family and friends. In this context, the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) reminds the importance of ensuring the halal status of purchased products.

BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan emphasised that, in addition to ensuring the taste and form of the souvenirs brought, the public must also confirm their halal status.

“Do not let the intention of sharing happiness be accompanied by uncertainty about the product’s halal status. Ensure that every souvenir we choose has a halal label,” he stated in a press release received by Kompas.com on Thursday (26/3/2026).

The man familiarly known as Babe Haikal urged the public to be more meticulous in selecting products, especially processed food and beverage products sold at various strategic locations in mudik destinations.

In addition to checking the halal label on the packaging, the public can also independently verify the halal status of products through the official BPJPH website at bpjph.halal.go.id to ensure the validity of a product’s halal certification.

“Checking the authenticity of the label or halal certificate is easy. Just open the BPJPH website at bpjph.halal.go.id, then the ‘Check Halal Product’ menu appears, enter the product name, business actor, or halal certificate number, then click ‘search’. The product’s halal status will appear,” explained Babe Haikal.

Furthermore, the public is asked to pay attention to the composition of ingredients and the cleanliness of products, especially for micro and small business (UMK) products that do not yet have standard packaging.

He added that buying halal micro, small, and medium enterprise (UMKM) products also means contributing to strengthening the halal ecosystem, particularly in the UMKM sector.

“By choosing certified halal products, including UMKM products, we are helping UMKM actors develop, while also strengthening the sustainability of the halal ecosystem in Indonesia. Every small step we take as consumers has a big impact on the national halal economy,” said Babe Haikal.
