Lebaran 2026 Train Tickets: 2.2 Million Seats Still Available, 30 Per Cent Discount Applies 14-29 March
Good news awaits those planning to travel home by train for Lebaran 2026. As of Saturday, 21 February 2026, tickets for the Lebaran transport period provided by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) remain available in large numbers, running into the millions of seats.
The latest KAI data shows that approximately 2.2 million tickets — or 59 per cent of total capacity — can still be booked. Meanwhile, 1.58 million tickets have been sold for the departure period spanning 11 March to 1 April 2026.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba explained that the current Lebaran train occupancy rate stands at just 40.87 per cent of the 3,872,810 seats provided. This means the public still has ample opportunity to secure their preferred travel schedules, including on popular routes. Anne also revealed that the government is providing a special fare incentive during the homecoming period.
“From 14 to 29 March 2026, a 30 per cent fare incentive is available as part of the government’s policy to support public mobility during Lebaran,” Anne said, as quoted by Antara on Saturday, 21 February 2026.
Although tickets remain widely available, booking trends indicate that certain peak dates are beginning to fill up. KAI predicts that a provisional peak in the homecoming exodus will occur on 23 March 2026, with sales reaching 114,113 tickets. The following day, 24 March 2026, also recorded high ticket sales at 112,758 tickets.
Long-distance economy-class trains remain the top choice for homebound travellers. The two services with the highest passenger numbers so far are the Airlangga train on the Pasar Senen–Surabaya Pasarturi route and the Serayu train on the Pasar Senen–Purwokerto route.
KAI reminded prospective passengers to book tickets through official channels such as the Access by KAI application or the company’s official website to avoid the risk of fraud.
“We urge customers to plan their journeys well in advance. If preferred dates are becoming crowded, customers may consider alternative departure dates or take advantage of the connecting train scheme,” Anne concluded.
