SEMARANG - The grace period for driver’s licences (SIM) expiring during Lebaran offers welcome relief to the public. This policy provides flexibility for SIM holders who cannot renew due to service closures during the long holidays for Nyepi and Idul Fitri. Deputy Head of the Registration and Identification Subdirectorate of the Central Java Regional Police Traffic Directorate, AKBP Prianggo Malau, stated that there is a dispensation for SIMs expiring between 18 and 24 March 2026. However, holders must still adhere to the specified grace period limits. If the grace period is exceeded, expired SIMs cannot be renewed and a new one must be made. For renewal requirements, these include a photocopy of the ID card, photocopy of the old SIM and the original SIM, proof of health check, and proof of active BPJS Health membership. Regarding fees, in accordance with Government Regulation Number 76 of 2020 on Types and Rates of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP), the public wishing to renew SIM A, A General, BI, BI General, B II, and B II General must pay Rp80,000. Meanwhile, the fee for renewing new SIM C, CI, and C II is Rp75,000. Furthermore, the fee for renewing new SIM D and DI is only Rp30,000. However, these fees do not include the costs of health tests, psychological tests, and insurance.
