Lebaran 2026 Return Traffic: Commuters Urged to Use Tol Japek II Selatan
Jakarta - Indonesian National Police (Polri) predict an increase in vehicle movement on several road sections starting today, Tuesday (24/3/2026), in connection with the return flow of the 2026 Lebaran holiday.
Therefore, the Spokesperson for the Public Relations Task Force of the 2026 Ketupat Operation, Senior Commissioner Marupa Sagala, reminds return travellers not to focus solely on the main route but to consider alternative paths to avoid congestion.
One option that can be used is the Tol Jakarta-Cikampek II Selatan.
According to him, that section is open without toll fees during certain periods while the Ketupat Operation is ongoing. Its existence is expected to help distribute the vehicle flow that has previously piled up on the main route.
Police predictions indicate that this year’s return flow will be divided into two phases. The first wave is estimated to occur on 24 March 2026, while the subsequent surge is projected to take place from 28 to 29 March 2026.
Based on monitoring at the Jasamarga Tollroad Command Center (JMTC), the vehicle volume at today’s return peak has the potential to exceed more than 285,000 units.
That figure surpasses the peak outbound flow record on 18 March 2026, which was around 270,315 vehicles.
To anticipate this surge, Polri has prepared traffic engineering in the form of a national one-way system on the Trans Java Toll Road section, implemented from KM 414 to KM 70.
Vehicle flow management is also supported by technology-based monitoring, from surveillance cameras to real-time traffic counting systems.
Coordination also involves several parties, such as the Ministry of Transportation, Jasa Marga, and Jasa Raharja.
