Lebaran 2026 Homecoming Traffic Expected to Peak Twice
The peak of Lebaran 2026 homecoming traffic, or 1447 H, is forecast to occur twice. To anticipate a surge in people travelling that is projected to increase by 1.4 to 2.1 per cent compared with 2025, the Central Java Police (Polda Jawa Tengah) have urged the public to plan their journeys carefully.
Public Relations Head of the Central Java Police (Kombes Pol Artanto) said that, based on cross-sector coordination of Operation Ketupat 2026 chaired by the Police Chief on 2 March, the peak homecoming traffic is expected on 14–15 March and 18–19 March 2026. “Meanwhile, the peak return traffic is predicted on 24–25 March and 28–29 March 2026,” he said at the Central Java Police Headquarters in Semarang on Wednesday (4/3).
He noted that the two-wave pattern is influenced by policies allowing flexible working hours and by the tendency of people to depart at different times, so traffic is not concentrated at a single moment.
Artanto urged the public not to depart at the same time as the peak. Drivers were asked to ensure their vehicles are in prime condition, have sufficient fuel, and check the balance on electronic toll cards before entering toll roads to avoid queues at toll gates.
Additionally, drivers were reminded to maintain physical condition and to use rest areas or service posts to rest.
“Prioritise safe driving, heed traffic signs, and respect fellow road users,” he stated.
To cope with the surge, the Central Java Police will deploy personnel primarily on toll roads, arterial routes, and at points prone to congestion and accidents. Security posts, service posts, and integrated posts are on standby to provide rapid service to the public.
Traffic management schemes such as one-way, contraflow, and ganjil-genap have been prepared and will be implemented situationally according to field conditions.
“We hope that the Lebaran mudik and balik traffic in 2026 can run safely, comfortably, and enjoyably, in line with the 2026 Mudik tagline: Mudik Aman, Keluarga Bahagia,” he concluded. (H-4)
