Lebanon Attacks: Could Israel's Trap Force Iran Back into War?
As many parties await the announcement regarding the extension of the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran, the situation is instead moving towards a more dangerous trajectory. Tensions are rising, with indications of attempts to reopen the battlefield against Iran through Lebanon.
According to Al Jazeera on Tuesday (2/6/2026), several analysts believe that Lebanon has now become a crucial card in a confrontation involving both diplomatic and military dimensions. Amidst discussions regarding the drafting of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, and just one day before the fourth round of negotiations between the Israeli and Lebanese governments, the Israeli military suddenly ordered residents in the Southern Dahiyeh area of Beirut to evacuate immediately.
In response to this escalation, the Iranian Tasnim News Agency reported that Tehran has suspended its negotiations with the United States. Meanwhile, Iranian military circles have stated the possibility of activating all fronts of resistance, including the Bab al-Mandab Strait, in response to the developments occurring in Lebanon.
Earlier on the same day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defence Minister, Israel Katz, announced that they had ordered the military to strike several targets in Southern Dahiyeh, Beirut. In response, the Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Base issued a similar warning to the residents of northern Israel. According to political analyst and author Johnny Mounir, these sudden developments do not indicate any change in the state of watchful calm between Iran and Israel.
