Lebanese Parliament Speaker: Hezbollah Ready for Ceasefire

BEIRUT (ANTARA) - Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said on Sunday (31 May) that Hezbollah is committed to a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire and called for efforts to compel Israel to halt its military operations. Berri stated that the conflict “does not lie with the resistance group’s position on the ceasefire”, but rather with Israel’s ongoing military operations in Lebanon, which he said have displaced thousands of Lebanese civilians and continue to destroy villages and homes across various areas. He added that any effort to de-escalate the conflict requires concrete guarantees to force Israel to fully cease its attacks. Berri’s remarks came as southern Lebanon witnesses unprecedented Israeli military escalation, which Israel describes as necessary to eliminate Hezbollah.
