Lebak Regent and Deputy Regent Reconcile After Dispute Over Former Inmate
Lebak Regent Hasbi Asyidiki Jayabaya and Deputy Regent (Wabup) Lebak Amir Hamzah have agreed to end the tension and reconcile. Hasbi stated that he will refocus on work.
The peace agreement took place at Amir Hamzah’s private residence in Kampung Kapugeran, Kelurahan Rangkasbitung Barat, Kecamatan Rangkasbitung, on Wednesday (1/4/2026). Hasbi arrived accompanied by the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Lebak.
“On behalf of myself and Pak Wakil, we state that we will focus on working for the people and maintaining government stability. What happened yesterday is in the past,” said Hasbi.
Hasbi said that the tension during yesterday’s halal bihalal event was his responsibility. The two have agreed to prioritise the interests of the people.
“I conveyed to Pak Wakil that yesterday was indeed my responsibility. We have agreed to prioritise the interests of the people,” he stated.
He emphasised that personal matters with Amir are resolved. He assured that the incident will not recur.
“Personal matters between me and Pak Amir are settled. What happened yesterday is a time that cannot be repeated,” he added.
He also praised his deputy. According to him, Amir is a senior figure who serves as a role model.
“I see him not only as deputy regent but also as a senior and a father figure. Insyaallah, we will focus on working for the people,” he said.
Hasbi also acknowledged his mistake for referencing Amir’s past. Going forward, he promised to improve communication.
“As a human, I am not a perfect being. In the future, we must improve communication, attitude, and so on,” he said.
Regent and Deputy Regent Dispute
It is known that the tension between the Lebak Regent and Deputy Regent occurred during the halal bihalal event held at the Regent’s Pendopo in Lebak on Monday (30/3). Initially, Hasbi gave a speech and directions to civil servants (ASN) to carry out their duties and functions in accordance with applicable regulations.
Hasbi then alluded to the Deputy Regent, whom he said often holds meetings with department heads. He stated that, based on Article 66 of Law No. 20 of 2023 on ASN, the Deputy Regent has limitations in coordinating with OPD ranks.
“The deputy regent’s duties in the ASN Law Article 66 are clear; they must not play around with department heads at their homes. The article states that if delegated or the regent is absent, that is the deputy regent’s task,” said Hasbi in his speech.
After that, Hasbi recounted Amir Hamzah’s past as a prisoner in the 2013 election dispute bribery case. Amir was found to have bribed former Constitutional Court Chief Akil Mochtar.
“Uyuhan (still better) a former inmate becomes deputy regent, be grateful,” said Hasbi in front of Amir.
Amir was annoyed with Hasbi for referencing his status as a former inmate during the halal bihalal event. He felt humiliated by Hasbi’s remarks.
“When he (Hasbi) said, for example, ‘si Amir former prisoner uyuhan geus jadi wakil bupati geh’ (Still better a former inmate becomes deputy regent too). That is personal humiliation, so I stood up from sitting to tell the regent not to speak like that,” said Amir.
