Lebak Regency Government dispatches 152 migrant workers to 14 countries

The Lebak Regency Government in Banten dispatched 152 Indonesian migrant workers from the region to 14 countries across Asia and Europe between January and July 2026.

“We hope that sending these migrant workers can increase family economic income and also reduce unemployment,” said Deni Triasih, Head of Placement, Expansion and Manpower Training at the Lebak Regency Manpower Office, in a statement in Lebak on Wednesday.

The Lebak Regency Government has established cooperation with licensed manpower service companies registered with the Ministry of Manpower.

Their departures to work abroad are made through official or legal channels, so they are protected by the Indonesian government as well as by the companies concerned.

“All migrant workers dispatched legally are protected by the government and the company,” said Deni.

According to him, the 152 migrant workers from Lebak Regency are working in 14 countries in Asia and Europe, namely Saudi Arabia, Brunei Darussalam, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Slovakia, Germany and Turkey.

They work in both formal and informal sectors, such as baby nurses, elderly care, vehicle accessory salons, shop assistants, factories, workshops, domestic helpers, drivers, industry and others.

The migrant workers have an average education level of senior high school and vocational high school. “We hope the migrant workers can carry out their duties well and with discipline, and also help the family economy of their parents,” he said.

He said that before departing to the various countries, the migrant workers already possessed competencies suited to the labour needs of those countries.

In addition, the migrant workers are able to master the language of the destination country. The Lebak Regency Government has a Job Training Centre building in collaboration with a skills training institution in Jakarta.

“The migrant workers are required to have competence and certification according to the request of the country so that they work more professionally,” he said.

Meanwhile, Maryati (25), a migrant worker from Lebak Regency, admitted that she feels comfortable working in Hong Kong as an elderly carer because her employer is quite kind.

“I have been working for three months now and have already sent Rp10 million to my parents in the village,” she said.
