Lebak Regency Declares Two-Week Drought Emergency Alert
Several areas in Lebak Regency are experiencing drought conditions, which have led to a reduction in the availability of clean water supplies. Consequently, the Lebak Regency Government has declared a drought emergency alert status.
“The Lebak Regency Government has established a drought emergency alert status for two weeks. We will extend this for the next two weeks as the situation continues to escalate,” said the Secretary of the Lebak Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Feby Rizki Pratama, on Friday (31/07/2027).
Feby noted that the drought in the Lebak region is expanding. It is recorded that 18 villages across seven districts are experiencing severe drought and are in urgent need of clean water.
“We have carried out clean water distribution to several districts; there are seven districts where we have intervened, covering 18 villages and serving 4,000 households,” he stated.
Feby admitted to facing difficulties in distributing the clean water supply to affected residents, primarily due to a lack of vehicles within the BPBD.
“There are indeed delays, particularly regarding vehicle availability and distance, as we only have two tankers available to serve the area, whereas distances within Lebak Regency are quite far apart. However, it is clear that every request will be served, even if not immediately,” he said.
“So far, we have distributed 1,350 litres of clean water,” he added.
Feby stated that the dry season is predicted to last until September. He urged the public to remain vigilant against potential hazards during the dry season, such as fires and health risks.
“Throughout July, there were approximately 35 fire incidents. In terms of health, the dust levels during the dry season can be extreme, leading to respiratory infections (ISPA) which we are trying to avoid. Additionally, those who use rivers for bathing and washing must be cautious as the river water becomes unclean. These are the risks to watch out for during the dry season,” he concluded.
